Oral-Systemic Health

Over a decade ago, the United States Surgeon General’s landmark report, Oral Health in America, profiled the poor oral health status of the nation as a “silent epidemic” and linked oral health to general health and well-being. Today, millions of Americans have unmet oral health care needs and profound oral health disparities persist especially in vulnerable and underserved populations. Improving oral health is a national priority. In 2011, Healthy People 2020 identified oral health as one of the Leading Health Indicators for our Nation.
